The West Reading Traffic & Infrastructure Committee met Wednesday, October 9th. Discussion included:
Check your water line! All building water lines will need to be identified in coming months - required to check for lead and galvanized lines
majority of lines checked already didn’t need to be replaced
successful trial sidewalk program
West Reading has paused enforcement of requiring residents to repair sidewalks because most sidewalk damage is done by borough trees
this year, West Reading Public Works replaced 41 sidewalk squares at 10 properties for a total of $4,500, at no additional cost to residents
had budgeted $10,000 for the year - well under budget
continuing program as it is very cost-effective and successful
identified up to 20 potential new parking spots throughout West Reading borough - examining further, will take action soon
options for Franklin St. and Lakeview Dr. intersection
according to PennDOT, not a candidate for a light or all-way stop due to traffic volume of both roads
considering elevating the pavement of the intersection to require slowing while navigating the intersection
Franklin St. and Third Ave. auxiliary signage: considering adding additional informational signage (ex. “cross traffic does not stop”) to aid in traffic control; intervention has been used at other intersections
approved requiring advance notice of road closures except in case of true emergencies
have a plan for relocating Delaney Memorial to the park system
