RM Palmer Company, LLC, has submitted a new application for zoning variances at 800 Van Reed Road. The application will be considered at a Wyomissing Zoning Hearing Board meeting on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at 3pm at Wyomissing Borough Hall.
This follows the Wyomissing Zoning Hearing Board denying another application from RM Palmer Company for zoning variances on October 26, 2023.

Background
RM Palmer Company has had operations located in West Reading since the 1950s and Wyomissing since the 1960s.
On March 24, 2023, there was a fatal explosion at the RM Palmer Company chocolate factory in West Reading.
In April 2023, RM Palmer Company LLC sold the properties at 1 Van Reed Road, 700 Van Reed Road, and 800 Van Reed Road to Confectionery Real Estate LLC. The properties were leased back to RM Palmer Company.
On October 2, 2023, representatives from RM Palmer Company, including CEO Mark Schlott, attended the Wyomissing Planning Commission meeting to discuss RM Palmer Company plans in Wyomissing. Topics included new property purchased by the company in Wyomissing, as well as the upcoming Wyomissing Zoning Hearing Board meeting the next day, October 3, 2023, considering RM Palmer Companies requested variances for 800 Van Reed Road.
On October 3, 2023, the Wyomissing Zoning Hearing Board meeting began with testimony from RM Palmer Company. The meeting was continued until a later date to allow RM Palmer Company to review and potentially update their application.
On October 26, 2023, the Wyomissing Zoning Hearing Board heard testimony from RM Palmer Company and questions from board members and residents regarding the RM Palmer Company updated application for zoning variances.
On November 8, 2023, the Wyomissing Zoning Hearing Board denied the RM Palmer Company application for zoning variances.
