Wyomissing 50/50 Sidewalk Program
Applications are open until April 30th for Wyomissingโs 50/50 Sidewalk Replacement Program. The program is based on a cooperative agreement between homeowners and the Borough, in which the Borough will contribute half the cost, up to $1,000, for voluntary repairs made to a public sidewalk made by the homeowner.
Important reminders:
90% of sidewalk hazard violations are caused street trees owned by the Wyomissing Borough - even on recently replaced sidewalks
the same is true in West Reading - most sidewalk damage is done by borough trees
Because of this, West Reading has paused enforcement of requiring residents to repair sidewalks
In 2024, West Reading Public Works replaced 41 sidewalk squares at 10 properties for a total of $4,500, at no additional cost to residents (well under $10,000 budget)
Because of the success of this program, West Reading is continuing the sidewalk replacement program at no cost to residents
